Congratulations Matt! I too am a recent convert to Inbox Zero. The burden lifted from my mental shoulders is nothing short of amazing.

I've been inspired by Michael Hyatt's tweets about inbox zero, along with this post he has on the subject:

http://michaelhyatt.com/2008/06/yes-you-can-stay-on-top-of-email.html

Maybe you can find some additional helpful tips.

Congrats again!

Thanks so much. Pure bichons are white, but this one is a bichon-poodle mix. We are truly enjoying him more every day. Although I will say we aren't training him so much as he is training us!

Matt,

Fantastic story and beautiful tribute to Terri. Speaking from experience, I never wanted a dog, especially not an inside dog. Two years later, I can't imagine life without Archie. Even as I remember my childhood dog, I don't remember loving him like this. It's crazy!

Of course, I never had the fear of dogs that Terri has struggled with. What an amazing testimony about the power of love and the ability to overcome fear.

Beautifully written, inspirational and heart-warming. Proud to know you guys!

Thanks for the link, the kind words, and the thoughtful comments about volunteerism. You're right on, and I like the phrase "freelance alumni" to describe the independent contributors.

One thing to watch is the motivation for this group's engagement. I have some concern that with an eventual, grudging acceptance of "loss of control" by the alumni office, volunteers will feel more free to use their volunteer status to benefit themselves as well. If they can justifiably describe their activity as "unofficial" they may be more willing - for example - to use their leadership of a reunion or an online group to market their own interests and sell products and services to fellow alumni. We wouldn't let them do that in an official capacity, but we might not have a choice if the channels used to organize and market a reunion (or any other event, program or service) are controlled by the volunteer.
